About Lake Zurich, Illinois
Lake Zurich, Illinois is a northwest suburb of Chicago that is located in Lake County. It is named after the body of water, Lake Zurich, which is completely inside the village. The area of Lake Zurich was first settled by European descendants in the 1830s. New England farmers moved to the area in the 1830s and 1840s and German immigrants began to move to the area in the middle of the 19th century. The village of Lake Zurich was incorporated in 1896. It remained primarily a farming community, however, with the close of the railroad line and the arrival of a highway system, Lake Zurich became established as a convenient summer resort. Housing development began in the 1950s with the population increasing trhought the latter part of the 20th century.
Lake Zurich sits at an elevation of 850 feet and spans 7.33 square miles. 6.93 square miles being land and 0.41 square miles being water. Per the 2020 census, the population was 19,579.
