About Carpentersville, Illinois
Carpentersville, Illinois is located in Kane County and was founded by Julius Angelo Carpenter. Carpenter came with his family from Massachuseets and settled near the Fox River. In 1837, his father, Charles Valentine Carpenter and his uncle, Daniel Carpenter were enroute to the Rock River and made camp on the east bank of the Fox River to wait out the spring floods. They ended up staying in the area to settle what was then called Carpenters' Grove. It held that name until 1851 when Carpentersville became official. Julius Angelo Carpenter built the settlement's first store, bridge and factory. The village kept booming with industry until the early 1900s. Today, Carpentersville is the largest community in Dundee Township.
According to the 2020 census, Carpentersville had a population of 37,983. It spans 8.08 square miles with 7.87 square miles being land and 0.21 square miles being water.
